The Minneapolis Star Tribune September 19, 1947 defines Burnsville:

The township doesn't have any stores, not even a general store.
The township is an old Irish settlement, with the ancestors of the two
sponsors starting farming in that area in 1856.  The area lies south
of the Minnesota River in the vicinity of Lyndale Avenue.
