INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT GROUPundated but circa 1967
caption
INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT commission of the village of Burnsville appointed December. 1966. The members of the commission are seated from Die left: Joseph Drake and Howard Knutson, chairman; standing from the left: Arthur Pitch. Ray Connelly and Stan Schaefer.

T h e Industrial Development Commission is the newest, appointed body in the village of Burnsville. This five man com mission was established to at tract industry by selling their product — Burnsville.
The commission meets every Thursday morning at 7:30 a.m. for breakfast at Herbies. Invited to these meetings are any interested parties, especially local businessmen.

Chairman of the commission Howard Knutson said, “ I believe a good foundation has been established for cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce and
Village Hall. With all groups working together, focused through the Industrial Development Commission and going in the same direction, Burnsville should benefit.”

The commission is presently compiling a brochure on the village, preparing sewer and water, road and zoning maps, planning a tour of the village for commission members and businessmen, and contemplating con tacts through out-of-town indus trial tours to spread the advantages of Burnsville.

The village council recently passed a resolution submitted by the commission to make high way 13 a four lane, all weather road. They have met jointly with the Chamber Industrial Development committee to establish co operation and avoid duplication. The commission has also met with some parties interested in forming an Industrial Development Corporation as another vehicle to attract industry to Burnsville.

Knutson further said, “Burnsville has many advantages which all citizens should remember and sell. Among these is a good tax base as we now stand, how ever, this tax base must be increased as the village grows. Think of this when you sell Burnsville.”

Orchard_Gardens_Incorporation_61_and_62.pdf
Incorporation efforts for Orchard Gardens 1961- 1962Two newspaper articles, the first December 14, 1961. Hearings opened this week in the Lakeville Village Hall on a proposal to incorporate the Orchard Gardens area, which lies partly in Burnsville and partly in Lakeville. Since Orchard Gardens lies partly in Burnsville, there must be a decision on the incorporation before there is any determination on the proposed annexation of Burnsville to Bloomington. Orchard Gardens at one time was a village and by a vote of people in 1926 dissolved the corporation. Just recently through a petition of more than 100 signers, the residents are again asking the state commission for incorporation.

Then March 22, 1962 it is reported: Incorporation for Orchard Gardens Out.

The Minnesota Municipal Commission denied a petition to incorporate a village of Orchard Gardens this week and the 6,480 acre area in northwestern Dakota County is not a suitable entity for incorporation....
