Savage Post Office business up 1960Undated 1960 Minnesota Valley Review

The increased population and business activity of the Savage Burnsville area are reflected in the 1959 post office report released by Postmaster James McCoy.

The total receipts, adjusted to reflect last year’s postage rate increase, amounted to $32,964.49. By way of comparison, receipts were $4,771 in 1945 and $24,399 in 1955.

McCoy began working in the Savage office in 1949 and was appointed postmaster in March of 1953. The senior postal employee is Mrs. Maristella Korba, who began in 1931. Mrs. Beatrice Williams started work in 1947. In the last three years, Mrs. Eunice Campbell, Mrs. Susan Scholz and Earl Husom have been added to the staff to handle the increased work load.

Rural route carrier Ray Egan, who began in 1957 now drive 64 miles a day to serve the 648 patrons on route number 1. Post Master McCoy reports that the rapidly increasing number of families moving into the area approximately 12 per month may require the establishment of an additional route
