Moulder's sand found in CountySept 22 (believe 1952)... Dakota County Tribune.
Two carloads shipped out from Thomas Kenneally (Kennealy) farm Monday.
Moulders sand, said to be the best in the country, is being taken from two Dakota County farms on the Minnesota River bottoms and sold to points throughout the nations, it was learned this week.
From the farm of Thomas Kennealy (correct spelling), five miles west of Mendota, two carloads were shipped out Monday. The sand is being sold in MInneapolis, Milwaukee, Duluth and Omaha.
Mr. Kennealy says the sand is found directly under the black soil to a depth of 67 feet. He gets 25 cents a yard for the sand, the fellow to whom he sells it gets $2.00 a yard and sometimes more. This particular kind of sand is said to be especially adaptable for use in hot metal moulds.
We understand this sand is also found on the farm of Jim Scott of Nicols, near the Kennealy farm.
