Design for the John and Bridget Slater farm.According to the Slater family, John and Bridget Slater's new home was Montgomery Ward and Company design. They built their home in 1919.
Wardway "ready-cut" homes were sold by Montgomery Ward. Montgomery Wards got into the housing market about the same time Aladdin and Sears were offering homes by mail, but didn't offer more than plans until 1922.
Farmers, like the Slaters had the opportunity to purchase a home kit from Montgomery Ward and have it delivered by rail and then hauled to the farm to be constructed. The four square style was popular. A similar home was built by the Casey's on Highway 13.

John Slater farm For over a year this photo appeared in our In the "Can You Identify?" And now we have the answer:
The farm with a pond in front is my grandparents John and Bridget (Walsh) Slater's farm. What is now Burnsville Pkwy ran in front of their house and whoever took the picture was probably standing in their neighbor's Joe Kearney's farm. The photographer was facing east.
