istorical photos speak to our hearts!

A story goes along with each of these photos. In every one there is the obvious subject, but also the rich background, and maybe a subtle detail that can lead to a memory, a smile, a moment of insight. A caption barely begins to point it all.

  • As you mouse-over each of the thumbnail pictures, you will discover that clicking brings you an enlargement.
  • Keyboard arrow keys will then take you to the next or previous image - or you can click the arrows on the screen.
  • To close the enlargement, just click outside the photo, or on the X.

It's fun to look at each photo and ask the questions your writing teacher may have urged upon you: Who? What? When? Where? Why?

If you have the answer to any of these questions about a photo you see here, please, send us an email or message us on Facebook! Our address is at the top of the page.

Many of our photos came with the rich collection given to us by the City in 2012. Almost everything in that collection was preserved by the late Evelyn Kjos, who is our unofficial Patron Saint. Evelyn was a City employee for almost 40 years. She is missed.
